Andover SEPAC is excited to welcome Engaging Minds, subject matter experts on Executive Functioning, to present “Executive Functioning Strategies for Creating Successful Students.” Please register in advance here.
As families adjust to evenings with their children jam packed with homework, projects, tests and extracurriculars, caregivers quickly become overwhelmed and stressed with the pressures of managing it all. Many are hungry to kick the school year off on the right foot, with skills and strategies to reduce that stress and create independence but do not know where to turn.
Executive function skills are the skills that help us organize, prioritize, initiate tasks, plan, manage time, and follow-through on goals. More directly, executive function skills help students:
• Break down large assignments into smaller, more manageable pieces
• Track daily homework, plan ahead, and keep up-to-date on long-term assignments
• Initiate homework and long-term assignments
• Organize thoughts and ideas for studying, reading comprehension, and to communicate clearly and effectively in their writing
This presentation will demystify the term executive function, discuss why executive function skills are increasingly important for students in today’s world, and offer actionable tips and strategies for parents to implement immediately to help strengthen these skills at home.
